Equal opportunities officer

EOOs support PhD students—financially as well.

Although women are gaining ground in terms of numbers when it comes to PhDs, the overall majority of scholarship and research at universities and technical colleges is still dominated by men. In order to help equal rights get off to a good start, equal opportunities officers (who are mandatory by law) often offer financial and other support programmes for female PhD students. This can be initial funding, materials grants for books and research trips, or late-stage funding for the final spurt. They also provide advice on careers in academia.
