The academic baptism by fire.

If you are looking to obtain a PhD, there are certain things you have to provide. One of them is the thesis, the other one is the oral examination. The name of this exam, and what is required from the candidate, is set down in the PhD regulations. The term “viva” is also common. Some vivas may be rather overarching, so questions may be asked not only about the thesis itself, but also about the field of work in general. Whatever the case, such exams also include the presentation of the main findings of the thesis by the PhD candidate.
